My work is based on the idea of making for the sake of making, and making what will make me happy. It is typically improvisational, drawing on randomness and spontaneity—uncertainty is vital. I’m drawn to quilts for their ability to comfort. I liken my relationship to them as a diary, dumping my life into each and every stitch. They hold my thoughts, dreams, memories, musings, secrets, desires, and guilts. I pull inspiration from the everyday, past and present, and strive to find beauty in the ordinary. I find myself thinking through my hands and the act of making itself is emotionally cathartic. Processing my experience in real time through textiles provides solace I’ve yet to find anywhere else (except maybe with my cat).
